Today I continue with the super bottlings of Brave New Spirits’ Voodoo series, a range of special single malt and single grain whiskies produced in small batches.
These whiskies are carefully selected from the finest casks, often from exotic and distant locations.
The label is very distinctive, featuring the ‘Voodoo High Priest’.
The bottling I tasted was ‘The High Priest’, a single malt distilled in the Orkney Islands and aged for 8 years in first-fill ex-bourdeaux casks, bottled at a strength of 52.6%ABV.
A total of 1,263 bottles were produced.
Tasting notes
Colour: gold
On the nose, peat is absent but fruity scents such as grape and fig explode and then something special emerges like chewing gum and sweetish hints like icing sugar, cooked wine and caramel.
On the palate, smoky and then very sweet with hints of mustard and fruity hints such as medlar, banana and blueberry. Then coffee and slightly excessive hints of wine that cover the smoky hints.
The medium-long finish with spicy hints such as black pepper and fruity hints such as banana and sultanas.
In conclusion, very good even if the typical Orkney smokiness is barely noticeable. Excellent for afternoon drinking with nuts.
