2020 edition of a Mortlach distilled in 2007, cousin of the same bottling released the same year but with a slightly lower aging (12 years) and bottled from two barrels.
Part of the Strictly Limited series, a single ex-Sherry Oloroso barrel that produced 732 bottles, not cask strenght.

Tasting notes

Copper in the glass.
On the nose, red fruits (blueberries, strawberries), sultanas and plums emerge on a pleasantly waxy pastiness, with a clear mineral and sometimes iron note grafted onto vanilla cream, orange peel, baked apple and cinnamon. Tea leaf base. Intriguing.
Lively and crisp mouthfeel, with a sprinkling of white pepper and ginger on plum, ripe apple, cinnamon, chocolate, orangeade. The base is slightly saline and mineral, with meaty impressions of bresaola. Dry and astringent on the length.
Quite long and dry finish of ginger, chocolate, bitter orange, nutmeg.

An unexpected Mortlach, which partially strides away from the personality of the distillery with unusual notes, while remaining recognizable. A curious and interesting experience.
