Resfeber is a Swedish term for that set of emotions that seize us before a journey, a mixture of anxiety and excitement as we wait to leave.
This is the name chosen for one of the latest creations of whisky maker (as he liked to call himself) Dhavall Gandhi for the English distillery, where as always former sherry casks are used as the basis for ageing, in this case casks matured with cream sherry, a blend originally created for the English market composed largely of oloroso with a component of PX, a rather sweet version to meet the gourmand palates of the target clientele at the time. In addition to these, red wine casks also contribute to the ageing process.

Tasting notes

It’s the rougher, more decadent side of the oloroso that makes its debut on the nose, a rugged, uncomplimentary sweetness that expresses all the dried fruit (figs, dates, blueberries, black grapes, apple) with sulphur tones and tanned leather and spices (nutmeg, cinnamon) in packs. Over time the sweet component becomes more and more intense, crème brûlée, black cherry compote, milk chocolate and balsamic vinegar cream grow. Direct.
The palate is rather sharp, with a lively burst of spices (pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg) on a less creamy body than I expected, in which a certain freshness of citrus and tropical fruit (pink grapefruit, ripe mango) stands out, which matches the less pushed sherried declinations than on the nose. More nuts (almonds, walnuts), trifle, more chocolate (albeit muted), maraschino cherries and the return of roughness, this time more of wood than leather. Malaga.
Quite long finish of nuts, candied cherries and pineapple, berry yoghurt, milk chocolate.

Honestly, I expected more, the notes are all in place, there are no smears or mottled parts, yet it lacks momentum, incisiveness, arriving at the empty glass satisfied, without the desire to pour more. To fans of the genre, however, perhaps it succeeds in giving something more.
