The Small Batch series debuted in 2025 with a finishing in Palo Cortado, followed by this second edition in April 2026, also with a secondary maturation in ex sherry first fill but of the Manzanilla type, the lightest among the fortified wines of Jerez.
Initial maturation in first and second fill ex-bourbon casks, with a production of two thousand bottles at cask strength with a considerable peatiness, at 50ppm.
Tasting Notes
Undoubtedly coastal and smoky on the nose, albeit with delicate sweetnesses that soften the impact. Mineral notes, iodine, and earthy smoke are enveloped by cheesecake with berries, limoncello, chamomile, sugar coated almonds, and sweet licorice. Perfectly integrated alcohol strength expresses harmony and freshness without compromising character.
The smoke takes its place on the palate, with a remarkable yet not overwhelming phenolic charge, always with a earthy and mineral aspect that pairs with the marine and iodized waves, between samphire and brine. Of good oiliness and fizz thanks to the citrus notes and the contribution of spices (black pepper, ginger, cloves, nutmeg), it presents a more vegetal profile, with aromatic herbs (rosemary, sage) and burnt grass. The sweet part glides to the background, more evident in length, among candied orange, panpepato, burnt cane sugar, and Biscoff.
Long and spicy finale, with vegetal smoke, sea water, licorice, candied orange, aromatic herbs, sweet almonds.
Review: The first Lagg that truly convinced me: full, complex, elegant, and fresh. A great example of what the distillery is capable of achieving over time.
