The first core range bottling from the Skye distillery, introduced at the end of March 2025, this Taigh aims from its name to express the heart of Torabaigh (in Gaelic, Taigh means “house”), with a cask combination designed to enhance the spirit.
Barrels ex-bourbon first fill as a reference point, to which additional refills and ex-madeira casks have been added to enhance depth… or at least that’s what they say.
Tasting Notes
From the very first approach to the nose, there are notes of iodine and salt that mark fruity and pastry hints of peach, apple, dried apricot, amaretti biscuits, pastry cream, raisins, and apple strudel. In the background, earthy and vegetatal notes of damp undergrowth emerge, alongside spices (cinnamon, nutmeg) and a slightly acidic and lactic undertone reminiscent of apricot yogurt. Peat serves as a connecting thread, with burnt wood and grass, incisive yet not overpowering. Full-bodied and immensely enjoyable.
On the palate, it presents with an oily lightness, punctuated by vibrant spices (ginger, black pepper, cinnamon, anise) that highlight the aroma, where the maritime aspect appears somewhat diminished in favor of fruit and pastry, embodied by trifle, peach, currant, crème brûlée, lemon zest, and amaretti, the focal point of this whisky. More pronounced peat yet still not overwhelming, maintaining a vegetative spirit, with the iodine salinity emerging in length, teasing the lips and tongue.
The island soul characterizes the finale, enveloping with the extinguished embers fruit, pastries, still amaretti, and spicy touches.
Review: A harmonious and gentle whisky, easy to drink yet not trivial, truly honoring the spirit of Torabaigh in a way that previous NAS releases have not. Clean, with personality and without pretension. In short, good.
