After two practically identical editions, the chameleon distillery Roseisle returns in 2025, with two more years of maturation and a set of unspecified casks, probably ex-bourbon.
Whether or not this is the swan song of the Special Releases, I hope that the distillery will have the opportunity to return in other editions, as what has been tasted so far deserves far more attention.
Tasting Notes
A feast of fruit on the nose, fresh and pungent, featuring crunchy apple, peach, apricot, pineapple, green banana, and a hint of citrus (mandarin). It also unveils aspects of pastry, with vanilla cream, baked apple, sponge cake, and a drop of honey, interwoven with a pronounced herbal vein of cut grass and eucalyptus. A subtle waxy note in the background. Pleasantly soft and fresh.
White pepper and ginger open the palate, which becomes astringent and citrusy between lemon and grapefruit, leaving less room for sweetness and more for angularity, although with a good creamy consistency. The spiciness grows over time, as does the vegetal part with balsamic traits that gains importance, while all the fruity and pastry elements fade into the background, gaining prominence only in length. A mineral vein, at times metallic, also emerges.
Finale quite long and spicy, with vegetal and slightly balsamic tones intertwining with mineral and fruity hints.
Review: It would be interesting to test Roseile with different maturations; although with a couple of years more, we are still within the realm of previous editions, just a bit more unbalanced despite the harmony of the title.
