After the Yellow Edition range I now move on to another series of bottlings from Brave New Spirits, and I must say that these whiskies are really getting me excited.
Cask Noir is a range of single cask whiskies. Each bottle is inspired by classic films and novels from a bygone era.
The bottling I am reviewing today is ‘Bonne nuit mon amour’, a single malt distilled on Speyside at the Glen Moray distillery, aged for 14 years in first-fill ex-bourbon casks.
One of the distillery’s special features is that it matures its single malts in special cellars with rammed earth and peat bottoms.
Only 223 bottles were produced.
Tasting notes
Colour: straw yellow.
The nose is predominantly spicy with notes of cinnamon, nutmeg and sage, followed by a nice balsamic note with hints of anise, eucalyptus and fruit with hints of pear, plum and white grapes.
On the palate, the fruit is much more pronounced with hints of apricot, pear, peach and plum. After that, sweet notes invade the palate with stewed apple and marzipan, but inexorably the most bursting note is the balsamic one with anise, mint and a slight hint of juniper.
The finish is very long, with lingering spices such as black pepper and pronounced balsamic notes.
In conclusion, this whisky from the Cask Noir series is truly special, with its balsamic notes it is perfect to enjoy in the evening before going to bed or on a relaxing afternoon.
