There aren’t many American whiskies with declared ageing, even fewer where the age is quite important like this ten years old.
A single cask and therefore a limited edition, with a price that is not quite within everyone’s reach, it’s therefore proposed as a fine bottling, made with a distillate procured as always from third parties and aged in charred virgin casks.
This edition is produced annually, always at the same proof, since 2014.
The nose is very soft, with a fruit salad of candied fruit (cherry, mandarin, mango) and dried fruit (banana, coconut), seasoned with cinnamon, caramel, tea leaves. Slight persistence of wood along the length.
In the mouth it starts with a hint of ginger and pepper on a sweet/sour profile, where vanilla and caramelised apple meet rhubarb and liquorice root, with a hint of fondant and orange. Impression of mustard.
Not very long finish of cinnamon, caramel, liquorice, candied orange.
I was expecting more complexity and depth, but I ended up with an unusual bourbon, of course, but rather simple and straightforward, all in all light, and given the premise (and the price) I admit I was quite disappointed. A pleasant dram, but nothing more.
