In these cold days, a bit of summer is needed, even if it is only in a glass.
A single cask, ex-Bourbon, which for 14 years contained a whisky from Macduff, a distillery that finds (and gives) much satisfaction in independent bottlings.
Tasting notes
Gold in the glass.
Vanilla and caramel triumph on the nose, a triumph of bourbon influence (forgive the terrible calembour) in a sweet and smooth profile with peach, banana, apricot, coconut, lemon cream, a hint of cinnamon. A few pencil shavings scattered here and there adding a touch of roughness. Balanced.
The palate is also soft and silky, with a touch of ginger to liven things up a little, rather dry, confirming the olfactory impressions which are reflected in lots of fruit, including nuts (hazelnut, walnut), spicy touches of cinnamon and nutmeg, apple pie with cream, with slight bitter notes in the background.
Fairly long finish with a saline hint of nuts, vanilla, coconut, nutmeg.
Reading other reviews, I find myself agreeing with those who evoked an impression of Bounty on the nose, the coconut and milk chocolate bar.
This is a classic whisky, honest, solid, well-balanced, free of smears and dangerously inviting to drink.
