Talking about the products of Dufftown is not exactly easy, given the confusion of recent bottlings.
We’ve already done a bit of history talking about another bottling, so it’s worth saying a few words about The Singleton label.

Three distilleries have come under this denomination since 2007, Glendullan, Dufftown and Glen Ord, and the transition from one to the other is more or less linked to the target market for the individual bottling, both geographically and in terms of distribution.
You can therefore find three 15-year-old Singletons, Glendullan for the American market, Dufftown for Europe and Glen Ord for Asia. To complicate matters, over time one or the other label has been highlighted over its peers, to the point that The Singleton of Glen Ord has effectively disappeared.
Is there a real difference between these bottlings? Hard to say…
On the other hand, when Diageo itself defines The Singleton as a “threesome” of distilleries, one can only raise one’s hands in front of such marketing sagacity!

Tasting notes

Marzipan and ripe fruit welcome the nose, unfolding into a soft and warming blend of pineapple, peach, red fruits, malted biscuits and cinnamon. Slight woody and herbaceous hints in the background. Not very penetrating but pleasant.
The biscuity and caressing malt reappears on the palate, always accompanied by fruit and spices, custard, ripe pear, hazelnuts. Astringency of wood in the background.
Rather short finish of hazelnuts, malt and wood.

I admit that I was prejudiced, expecting an ethereal, colourless whisky, but instead I found myself in front of an honest, simple product, perhaps a little overpriced compared to its merits, but not despicable.
