In September 2025, the third edition of the “overwhelming” peated version of The GlenAllachie was released, which selects the most phenolic parts in the new make to enhance its smokiness (sourced from the Highlands).
After the 71ppm of 2023 and the 70ppm of 2024, we reach the 72ppm of this bottling, resulting from the joining of five new American oak casks and four ex-sherry oloroso hogsheads, exactly like the year before (while in 2023 the proportion was three to five).
Tasting Notes
Meaty and vegetal at the same time, on the nose it is intense and dark like the color in the glass, with a rich barbecue from sizzling fat on the grill brushed with ample soy sauce and sprinkled with aromatic herbs (rosemary, thyme, sage) and spices (cloves, curry). Candied orange, maple syrup, pecans, and smoked cherries (if they ever existed) serve as luxurious supporting actors, with an engaging depth. A slight camphor note lingers. Pantagruelian.
After such abundance, to the palate, things become simpler and more direct. Cloves and soy sauce raise the tones, bringing a veil of salt to the lips, joined by cumin, black pepper, and ginger that tingle on the tongue. It’s the vegetable soul that comes to the fore, among grilled aromatic herbs, gentian, and a more pronounced camphor, while the meaty part seems almost to disappear, making room for fruity (bittersweet orange, cherry) and sweet (candied orange, scorched shortcrust pastry, maple syrup, licorice) tones. Very oily, with smoke more pronounced and clear but without overdoing it, leaving the balsamic components the task of closing in length.
In a long, spicy finish with burnt wood, citrus, sour cherries, and sweet licorice.
Review: The sumptuousness of the nose doesn’t find an ally of equal stature in the tasting, where some complexity is lost while remaining rich and convincing despite its youth. In this regard, it is a notch lower than the previous edition, but a notch higher for the nose, so in the end, it receives the same rating but for different reasons.
