Majority change for Compass Box

An acquisition with a relaunch in sight?

The world of whisky moves huge amounts of capital, so it’s not surprising that there may be ‘big financial manoeuvres’ involving not only large corporations.

It’s recent news that Cælum Capital Limited (‘an independent strategic advisor and early stage activist investor focused on Southeast Europe and other emerging markets’, with particular interests in the premium beverage market) has acquired a majority stake in Compass Box, the well-known London-based independent bottler.

Founded by Manish Rungta, a former Diageo executive, Cælum Capital Limited has appointed Maurice Doyle (with 30 years of marketing and executive leadership experience in the global alcoholic beverage industry) as the company’s new CEO, placing him alongside founder John Glaser.
The intention, in the words of the company, is to “strengthen the balance sheet of the Company, acquire inventory, and build production facilities. Cælum will help facilitate the ambition of Compass Box to provide more opportunities to explore, experiment and innovate, with curiosity and creativity as its guiding principle”.

A financial operation probably intended to provide the company with new capital with a view to an aggressive relaunch on the market: we’ll see what advantages it will bring for us enthusiasts!
