This is the second bottling in Morisco’s Marble Collection, whose labels are taken from the cosmatesque floors of some medieval churches (this time it’s the church of Santa Prassede in Rome), a choice that’s linked to the artistic training of founder Andrea.
This time it’s the turn of a single cask of Glentauchers, a distillery that is on these pages for the third time and always in independent versions: ex-Sherry Oloroso, 120 bottles produced, cask strength and without adulteration.
Thanks to Andrea for the kind sample.

Tasting notes

On the nose, the Sherry’s brushstrokes are light and sinuous, with a very soft and caressing, pastry-like sweetness, with acidic and rough edges that maintain balance. Almond, orange marmalade, cinnamon, prune, chocolate and a hint of buttermilk. Slight herbaceous inflections on the length with touches of leather and tobacco. Fascinating.
In the mouth it becomes more lively, with an attack of pepper and ginger framing evocations that are more fruity than sweet, with red fruits crossing tropical ones (wild strawberry, pineapple, raspberry, banana, sultana) on a full-bodied bed of chocolate and butter. Marzipan, liquorice root and tobacco complete the picture, with a touch of propolis along the length.
Quite long and dry finish of tobacco, red fruits, almond, vegetable notes, a hint of salt and a puff of smoke.

Probably the product of a refill cask, this is a beautifully balanced whisky that brings an unexpected freshness and flavour to the dram and is entertaining without tiring. Great structure of the base distillate (I admit, I’m falling in love with Glentauchers) and excellent cask harmony.
