The latest addition to the bottlings for the most stylish bloggers in the world, presented at the Milan Whisky Festival of 2025, this is their first Irish whiskey, confirming an unconventional approach to the selection of styles and distilleries.
A single pot still (meaning distilled with malted barley and not in minimum proportions of 30% each, with a maximum of 5% of other grains), produced by the tireless Irish whiskey maker, the Great Northern Distillery, which after (almost) six years of maturation in a first-fill ex-bourbon barrel has produced 264 bottles, not at cask strength.
Tasting Notes
Inevitably fruity on the nose, with a fresh crispness that leads to apples accompanied by white melon, unripe banana, plums, kiwi, and pineapple. Sweet and tart tones, supported by a consistent vegetal element with mineral traits and a component of almonds and sourdough. A softer background of vanilla and honey grows in length, along with a balsamic vein between eucalyptus and alpine candies. What you expect, with something extra.
The spiciness of ginger at the entrance of the palate, which reprises the theme of white fruit with a greater incidence of almond, even in the form of candy, with a stronger presence of the vegetal and balsamic side, quite lively. Honor to the alcohol content, which provides backbone and substance with a good creaminess, recalling pastry (a memory of apple strudel) along with hints of pear juice, propolis, and malt. A note of coffee emerges at the finish.
Finale quite long of spicy sweets, almonds, vegetal and balsamic notes, a tiny (but really small) touch of salt and astringency of wood. Coffee re-emerges in the background.
Review: A classic whiskey that is not so classic, at least for those used to drinking Scotch, with the right complexity of a young product that knows how to be very drinkable and “easy” without cheating.
