After the Yellow Edition range, I now move on to another series of bottlings from Brave New Spirits, and I have to say that these whiskies are really getting me excited.
Cask Noir is a range of single malt and blended whiskies produced in small batches, with each bottle inspired by classic films and novels from a bygone era.
The bottling I review today is ‘The Magnus Experiments’, a single malt distilled in the Orkney Islands and aged for 16 years in Hogshead ex-bourbon casks,
Only 288 bottles were produced, but I am sure each one will win over the palate of any whisky lover who loves peat.

Tasting Notes

Colour: gold
On the nose, very smoky, the sensation is like when you smell extinguished ash after a bonfire on the beach, then it opens with sweet hints like cheesecake, cinnamon and cream. After a few minutes, you can smell spicy notes such as pepper, nutmeg and finally an algal note.
On the palate, peat makes itself felt and various hints of ash and bbq sauce. Creamy notes explode after a while like cream, whipped cream and cocoa. This is mixed with hints of cheesecake, mulled wine and salted caramel.
The finish is very long, marine and mineral with a very salty finish.

In conclusion, this Cask Noir series whisky really is a bomb, I really enjoyed it and it would be top to drink it sitting on the cliffs of the Orkney Islands.
