What happens when Speyside meets Islay?
A super combination that is part of Brave new Spirits’ Voodoo series, a range of special single malt and single grain whiskies produced in small batches.
These whiskies are carefully selected from the finest casks, often sourced from exotic and distant locations.
The bottlings are characterised by very colourful labels.
The bottling I tasted was ‘The Iron Collar’, a single malt distilled from Ardmore in Speyside and aged for 12 years in ex-Islay casks that had contained peated whisky and bottled at 57% proof.
Only 562 bottles were produced.

Tasting notes

Colour: gold
On the nose, it explodes with fruity scents such as pear, peach and papaya, then slowly hints of pistachio and nuts emerge. The vanilla is persistent and continues with herbaceous hints such as wild fennel, rosemary and an almost imperceptible peat.
On the palate, you are catapulted onto Islay, the peat is noticeable and hints of seaweed, burnt wood and beach bonfires are well marked. But then the peaty hints disappear and creamy, sweet notes like chantilly cream, chocolate and toffee emerge.
The finish is long, mineral and spicy with hints of seaweed and black pepper.

In conclusion, I think this whisky is really good, a mix of flavours that explodes both on the nose and palate, the alcohol content is perfectly balanced and doesn’t overpower.
I’d recommend it to any whisky aficionado and honestly I wouldn’t pair anything with it because it’s perfect as it is, for the more vicious I’d maybe smoke a fine red toscanello with it.
