The new distillery on Islay has a name

Portintruan will start production in 2024

Since the beginning of 2020, Elixir Distillers, the label created by Sukhinder Singh and Rajbir Singh, founders of The Whisky Exchange, has been mulling the idea of setting up its own distillery on Scotland’s peated Island, giving it the provisional name of Farkin Distillery, but now that plans are well advanced, the final name has been announced: Portintruan.

Located just outside Port Ellen, the new distillery is expected to begin production in 2024, with its own malting floor covering much of the raw materials and a now unusual direct fire on the wash stills, fuelled by bio-diesel.

The name is that of the farm estate on which the distillery will be built, flanked by ‘experimental’ production of different styles of whisky and rum.
