Lowland Region News Scotland

A new distillery project approved in the Lowlands

There seems to be no end to the ferment in Scotch whisky, even reaching a region like the Lowlands which has always been (wrongly) a bit of the Cinderella of Scotch whisky.

Scheduled to open in 2023, the construction of Eden Mill’s new distillery will complement the existing one where gin and beer are also produced, which was founded in 2012 by Tony Kelly and Paul Miller and has been distributing its own single malt since 2018.

The project involves the construction of a carbon-neutral distillery in the middle of the University of St. Andrews’ Eco Campus, which is working closely with the project to ensure its sustainability, with energy produced from biomass and an innovative battery system.
