The Whisky Club Italia is the largest association of enthusiasts in Italy: 17,000 members (and growing), scattered throughout the peninsula and some outside, always very active with a vast range of initiatives that not even the pandemic could stop.
Masters courses dedicated to rum, gin and, obviously, whisky, publications (including the very recent Malt Whisky Yearbook 2022), an extensive information and educational archive, events (such as the two editions of Whisky Week in Como and Treviso), a shop and, last but not least, some dedicated bottlings.

And here is the latest arrival, a cask strength single cask of Teeling presented in Treviso in the presence of Club founder Claudio Riva, representatives of Italian distributor Rinaldi 1957 and myself, caught in a moment of particular introspection:

Claudio Riva, Gabriele Rondani, Whisky Art, Walter Gosso

A classic Single Pot Still (equal parts malted and unmalted barley), distilled in 2016 whose cask was selected in July 2021 by the Club team to be bottled shortly afterwards in 270 bottles, available from yesterday, 27 October, on the shop.

Tasting notes

What strikes immediately on the nose is the significant alcohol content, which is simply completely absent. Plenty of floral and fruity tones, cereal biscuits with dried fruit (blueberries, apples), honeysuckle, toffee, honey, buttermilk. Slight spiciness in the background with fresh and herbaceous veins.
In the mouth the alcohol recalls its presence, although not invasive, with a sprinkle of white pepper and a touch of ginger on a good texture of cereals, almonds, digestive biscuits, cedar wood, a hint of nutmeg, vanilla. Compact.
Fairly long finish of nuts, cinnamon, bread crust, wood.

A solid, well-balanced whiskey, not looking for strong emotions and special effects but offering a rich and composed dram, confirming that the Teeling distillate, despite its youth, already shows a strong personality and consistency.
