Back again to Christmas 2020 with another festive edition of a Scotch, this time the Highlands blended from the volcanic Douglas Laing, represented by the scared little mouse.
Limited edition of 450 bottles, cask strength (but unusually low), created by blending three undeclared Highland single malts with a minimum age of 18 years.
Tasting notes
Amber in the glass.
A hint of balsamic vinegar immediately emerges on the nose, accompanied by pungent herbaceous and mentholated scents on which pecans, wild strawberries, blueberries, gooseberries, nutmeg ride. Drop of lime. Inspiring.
On the palate, the sherried component rediscovers itself as more combative, pushed by a burst of black pepper that sharpens the vinous notes with berries, liquorice, baked apple, pine nuts. The fresher, lighter component of green tea, lemon and cedar wood remains active. The two souls alternate and compensate each other, in an amusing game of contrasts.
The finish is quite long and dry, with bitter notes of nuts, liquorice, tea leaves and lemon.
A curious whisky, lively and cheerful like the mouse on the label, which although it does not offer much depth knows how to entertain and keep the attention.
