We finish our tour of Glenglassaugh’s core portfolio with the Revival, whose name already recalls its origin, the distillery’s first bottling since it reopened in 2008.

In fact, this was the calling card of the distillery’s rebirth, it remains to be seen whether it can live up to it…

Tasting notes

Light gold in the glass.
Boy, can you taste the red wine! The first approach to the glass is one of very clear red fruit, with an explosion of strawberries, blueberries, cherries, plums… sweet and acidulous, on the nose sherry and wine join forces to overcome everything else. Digging into this fruity blanket, one finds marzipan, nutmeg, dried dates and a few hazelnuts. The influence of the barrels is very strong, too strong.
It’s the Sherry that dominates the palate, very mellow, with sultanas infused in alcohol, cinnamon, a touch of pepper, dark chocolate, prunes, a slight woodiness in the background. Warm and soft, but quite flat and single-minded.
Medium finish, slightly ashy, spicy, wine, cherries, wood.

Definitely the least interesting of the three NASs in Glenglassaugh’s basic portfolio, the contribution of the wine casks messes up the aromas on the nose and then practically vanishes on the palate, which remains in the groove of the thousand thousand sherried that are already on the market. It’s certainly not to be thrown away, considering the price, but it is largely negligible.
