Ageing launched in 2019 to expand Glenallachie’s core portfolio, this 15yo finished its maturation in a mix of Sherry casks between puncheons and hogsheads of Oloroso and Pedro Ximénez: as you know, the Master Distiller loves to play with finishings.

Tasting Notes

Dark amber in the glass.
Cherry in alcohol and sultanas emerge on the nose, accompanied by cinnamon, a hint of nutmeg, rhubarb, liquorice, chocolate. But it’s not all Sherry that glitters, and underneath comes a little Bourbon with a touch of vanilla, peach, lemon. Red orange.
More decisively than on the nose, the sherry reaffirms its influence with prunes, sultanas, nutmeg, liquorice, dark chocolate. Dry and rough, the palate also features leather, tobacco, toasted almonds, rhubarb.
Quite long and dry finish of hazelnuts, red fruits, nutmeg, wood.

If you like Sherry in your whisky, you’ll find what you’re looking for here: the influence is strong but not trivial, less pandering than other finishes. However, it eats up the whole distillate, leaving little room for refinement, and this is a bit of a disappointment given other more elaborate expressions of the distillery, which seems to do much better in limited editions.
