Let’s go back to the online edition of the whisky festival organised in early May by Springbank, with the third special edition of the set, one of their most popular labels among peat enthusiasts.
A very young Kilkerran, which spent its short five years ageing in first-fill ex-Sherry casks and not disassembled (as in the other two editions seen previously) and bottled at cask strength.

Tasting notes

Amber in the glass.
Barbecue sauce and grilled ribs emerge on the nose, intense and full, with blueberries, ripe figs, wild strawberries, gooseberries, toasted caramel, coffee. A bright mineral note veins the aromas, along with a hint of wet leather. Nice blend of peat, sweetness and ocean.
The high alcohol content makes itself felt at the mouth, to be taken with due caution. Not particularly pronounced spice, of ginger and nutmeg, on a full and oily body of embers, blood orange, berries, pink grapefruit, liquorice, chocolate. Balsamic vein and minerality always very bright.
The finish is quite long and spicy, of ash, blood orange, liquorice, a hint of lemon and salt.

Tough and pleasant, balanced despite its young age and the exuberance of the barrels, another example of a successful marriage between Sherry and peat without great complexity but with a pleasant and dangerously attractive drinkability.
