I return to the imaginative bottler Murray McDavid with another of their blends, the result of the marriage of whiskies aged at least 29 years, composed of 50% single malt from Islay (specifically: 80% Bowmore, 15% Laphroaig and 5% Caol Ila) and the remaining half of single grain from North British.
All of them have been distilled in 1988.
Union of three casks, that created 636 bottles in 2018, no longer so much available.

The marriage of grain and Islay peat results in a herbaceous and floral nose, with a light smoky vein, more moist than toasty, with a coastal breeze on delicate aromas of coconut, peach, vanilla, almonds, lemon drop. Fresh and delicate, despite its age.
The presence of peat is more distinct in the mouth, still in its more herbaceous (and marine) soul, with a more decisive toasting that envelops a more marked sweetness of pineapple, peach, lemon cream, vanilla, honey, malt. Cascade of wild flowers. The whole is pervaded by a breath of lavender and a marked salinity.
Quite long and salty finish, where the peat takes its revenge with ash sprinkled over vanilla, honey, pineapple and lavender.
The Islay malts give colour and substance to a very fresh and bucolic dram, the massive contribution of Bowmore allows the peat to gently integrate with the herbaceous tones in a truly unique and complex tasting, with a remarkable (and rare) balance, especially with distillates of this age.
